Personal Assistance Service

Supporting Independent Living for People with Disabilities

Hand in Hand offers a Personal Assistance service designed to support adults with disabilities for up to 120 hours per month. This essential service empowers individuals to live independently, engage with their communities, and lead self-directed lives.

Many people with disabilities require tailored support services to manage daily activities and fully participate in society. Personal assistance covers a wide range of support, including:

  • Help with communication and mobility

  • Formal assistance in decision-making for individuals with psychosocial support needs

  • Adapting living environments to individual needs

  • Access to community-based services such as early intervention, rehabilitation, day centers, and home care

  • Support in accessing mainstream services like healthcare, education, and justice

A personal assistant is someone who supports a person with a disability in a way that respects their choices, listens to their needs, and promotes autonomy. This relationship is built on trust, empathy, and person-centered care — with the goal of improving the individual's overall quality of life.

The service is available to all persons with disabilities, regardless of type or severity.

All personal assistants complete a mandatory training program based on standards set by the Ministry of Health. The specific type and level of support each individual receives is determined by authorized medical institutions through medical-social assessments.
